It's nearly September and that means only one thing - it's time to go back to school. Midday lie-ins are over till October, and you'll be greeted with 9am lectures.

Whether it's school, college or university, here are five apps to download before you head back, just to make life that little bit easier when you get there.

Dropbox - FREE - Android, iOS

This app allows you to share and bring all your photos, documents and videos anywhere, with access from your phone, computer and the Dropbox website.

You'll never be able to use the "I've forgotten my homework" excuse again, but because you just share a link, you will also never have a problem with large attachments.

Users sign up for free and automatically get 2GB of space, and saving photos and videos to Dropbox, can earn up to 3GB additional free space. All-in-all, it beats carrying a USB stick around with you.

Duolingo - FREE - Android, iOS

With this app, you'll be bi or tri-lingual in no time. Duolingo lets you learn Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and English completely free with no irritating ads or fees.

You have to gain achievements to shoot up the leaderboard, allowing you to compete with your friends and track your progress. Then there are bite-sized lessons in subjects including Food, Animals and Plurals, which you will need to complete without losing your hearts to advance.

It can be a helping hand in your language classes, or just a fun way to learn a new language.

Evernote - FREE - Android, iOS

This one is an organising genius. Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists and record voice reminders, while syncing all of them across the computers and devices you use.

You can connect it to other apps and products you use, as well as email notes and save tweets to your Evernote account. It also lets you organise your notes by notebooks and tags and share them with friends through Facebook and Twitter.

Whether it's tagging a place with a good drawing opportunity for Art or writing up your lecture notes, it will keep everything safe, secure and easy to find.

Skitch - FREE - Android, iOS

For those with a creative streak, Skitch lets you mark up a PDF, snap your screen, annotate a photo or create something new with a blank canvas. It's like a digital sketchbook.

You can then share your thoughts and ideas with friends. Shapes, text, stamps, highlighters and arrows allow you to give feedback on any project and you can zoom and crop images, as well add highlights to screenshots and draw attention to what matters.

As it is part of the Evernote family, if you sign in to Evernote, you will be able to access all your images, documents and annotations on any device. Skitch could be great for times when you have to work as a team, sharing ideas and finding inspiration from different places.

Chambers Dictionary - £4.99 - Android, iOS

It's frustrating when a word comes up and you don't know what it means, or how to spell it. Chambers Dictionary comes with over 300,000 words, compounds, phrases and derived forms.

It has an intelligent word entry system, which suggests possible correct spellings as you type, as well as listing words that sound the same or are often confused. It comes with functions including alphabetical listing, fast pattern-matching search, an anagram solver and you can filter search results by noun, verb, adjective and adverbs.

There is also the Chambers Thesaurus (£2.99) if you find yourself constantly using the same old words.

Whether you need a place to store your work, create your work, or help you with your work, these apps are sure to help you out
